Even a digital nomads needs a break from it all and there are few better places in the world to do this, than Raja Ampat off the coast of West Papua. The tropical archipelago of almost a thousand islands is the ultimate picture postcard desert island paradise. The sea is warm, the weather is hot, the resorts are luxurious and there are no crowds of tourists.

Raja Ampat in West Papua is the kind of place that you come to when you have no intention of fielding an email or answering your phone for at least a week – for the simple reason that in most places there simply is no mobile phone signal. You have to know this before you arrive, but don’t worry, this won’t mean that you will be feeling bored when you get here and here’s why (if you need more convincing then check out this comprehensive destination guide on Raja Ampat and West Papua).

Diving

Located on the tip of the Coral Triangle, Raja Ampat is famous around the world for its world class diving. A week spent in the waters of this pristine marine ecosystem will give you the chance to swim with whale sharks, dolphins, hammerhead sharks, turtles, stingrays and a hundred other species of fish that you probably won’t know the name of. It is this rich biodiversity that makes diving one of the highlights of any visit to Raja Ampat.

Sites

Your time spent in Raja Ampat should not be limited to just exploring below the waterline. Raja Ampat is filled with beautiful natural wonders and unparalleled panoramic views. One of the highlights is the rocky island of Wayag. As you can see from the photo above, the view from the summit of Wayag Island is simply breathtaking.

Luxury Resorts

Raja Ampat doesn’t have the usual cheap hostels filled with boozing tourists that you find in many tropical destinations in Indonesia. In fact, there are no crowds of tourists. Instead, you will find a few scattered luxury resorts on isolated sun drenched tropical islands. The beaches are pristine, the staff are attentive and the rooms are sumptuous. I can promise you it is just what you are after.

Relaxation

Raja Ampat is one of those few travel destinations that you can say is off the grid. The province of West Papua does not attract the crowds of tourists that you get in other places like Bali. The region is isolated and once you’ve arrived, bad telecommunications infrastructure ensures you have limited connectivity to the outside world. Remember, you live and work on your and your computer, so simply switch off all of those technological distractions and enjoy life.
