Five things to see/do in Krakow: Don’t miss the Wawel, an impressive palace/cathedral complex, which offers visitors impressive facades, beautifully decorated interiors, gardens, royal tombs, and more.
The beautiful Rynek Glowny (Market Square), the largest medieval square in Europe, and one the city’s main attractions. Here you’ll find the Sukiennice (Cloth Hall) and the Town Hall tower (both from the 16th century), as well as the 10th century Church of St. Wojciech.
The Kosciól Mariacki (St. Mary’s Church) is one of the main landmarks on the Market Square (see above). It is famous for its intricate 15th century altarpiece designed by Viet Stoss, as well as for having an hourly bugle call from the top of its tower.
No visit to Krakow would be complete without a visit to the Wieliczka salt mine (on the UNESCO world heritage list), a massive underground mine with tours conducted by ex-miners. Don’t miss the church carved entirely in rock salt.
Take a stroll through Krakow’s old Jewish Quarter (Kazimierz), where you’ll find several prominent synagogues, including the “Old Synagogue” – the oldest surviving Jewish building in Poland. Kazimierz is also a popular going-out area both during the day and at night.
